Struggling with Suffering Residential Weekend

  • Do you enjoy spending time with others investigating an aspect of your faith?
  • Are you sometimes daunted by the huge subject of suffering?
  • Would you like to be better equipped to support others who are struggling with suffering?
If you answer 'yes' to these questions, this weekend is for you. You may be a lay person committed to the life of your church, a Reader, Local or Lay Preacher, or ordained minister. It is designed for any who want to feel more confident dealing with this vast topic.

The Struggling with Suffering Lindisfarne short course will run over a residential weekend from 18-20 November 2011 at Shepherds Dene Retreat House, Riding Mill. As well as working through the course yourself, you will learn how to help others face the questions that suffering raises.

Struggling with Suffering considers:
  • how to tackle the ‘why’ of suffering – and how to avoid simplistic answers
  • how we can believe in a good God when there is so much suffering
  • how God in Jesus suffers and allows death – and only then brings about resurrection
  • unanswered questions and paradoxes and ways in which the Trinity might help
  • how to live positively and with celebration despite living in a suffering world
The weekend will be led by The Revd Alastair Macnaughton, Lindisfarne’s Developing Discipleship Officer, The Revd Janet Appleby, who wrote the Struggling with Suffering course and The Revd Christine Blakesley, who provided meditations for the course. The weekend runs from 6pm on Friday 18th to 2pm on Sunday 20th and the cost to attend for the full weekend is £135.

We expect this weekend to be heavily subscribed so please book early to secure your place.  To book please contact Jenny Crawford, Lindisfarne Administrator on 0191 270 4144 or jennycrawford@lindisfarnertp.org, giving your name and contact details.

Because of the profound pastoral nature of the subject of this course, we will ask for your church leader’s support before accepting you onto the course.
